Re: [DL] Reluctant Player Member
Well with all this talk about how to encourage a player to go along with the
flow...
there is something to be said for not doing it.
In any game you'll come across "characters" with less motivation to do
something than others.
I always find it a gamer cliche that a character goes along just because.
Now as a gamemaster you should write your adventures keeping in mind
character motivations.
If you aren't running an adventure you wrote, then you should be careful
about motivation,
and what the adventure details.
All in all, when a player comes to me with a character they like to play,
one of my first characters is what is some of the things that motivates your
character.
Most of the time there are a least a couple of things.
Money is sometimes one of them, Fame is a good one too...
Do I think that everyone has motivations?? Yes.
As I write this piece I'm motivated to do so, because I feel I have some
experience
with "problem" players, and I like to help people.
So perhaps the Marshal should ask the Player about his characters
motivations,
and if the character has none, then obviously the Player hasn't thought
about his/her character that much.
Just my 3 bits
