Re: [DL] Border crossing
--- Evil Robot Shane From Another Dimension
"Anyway, what I'm wondering is, what's crossing a
border like? Is it a barbed wire fence, or some
soldiers sitting at the side of the road, or just an
imaginary line? Is it, like, "state your business",
or "show me your papers", or "kneel down next to this
shallow trench, Rebel scum"? Are there border
patrols, does anybody really care? What about
crossing on a train? What forms of ID do people use,
or do they use any?"
Here's my experiences, as my posse has crossed the
Disputed/Union border twice now. The first time we
set up a decoy, sending one lone rider (yours truly)
out in front to give the wagon enough time to side
track. Maggie met three Union soldiers on horseback
who asked her for her name, where she was going (Des
Moines), why (bank guard job) and where she was from
(Wyoming). Then they searched her bags, even reading
her journal (despite her protests that might have
worked better on the Confederate border), looking for
hidden messages or codes she might have been carrying.
We were in the middle of the prairie, not even a road,
and the wagon got away from them easily because of the
decoy.
Hope it helps!
