[DL] The Lord of the Rings [OT]

----Original Message-----
I haven't either. ;) I've tried to read the first one like 5 times now and I
can't get past the hobbit hoedown. It's SO BORING! I know it gets great
later
on, but the first 100 pages or whatever are awful.
Just my opinion. Please don't beat me. I've had a rough week. ;)

Heh. I'll throw myself out there for public condemnation as well. I've
read the hobbit several times, but I found the LOTR series to be abysmally
dull. I never could get through it.

Just a brief comment then I promise to let this go: For those who are
feeling guilty about not reading The Lord of the Rings and want to get into
it relatively quickly and painlessly, may I recommend the Soundflex Audio
Publishing versions (the tapes and CDs in the wooden boxes). Some of the
Foley Artist sounds are a little lackluster but there is good voice acting
and hearing the voices is a great way to hear the Anglo-Saxon influences.

A warning for purists -- it's an adaptation and I listened to it years after
reading the books but it's pretty faithful.

Just don't try to take this approach with any class work. Your prof will
nail your hide to the wall faster than Stone can draw his six-shooters.
(Just to take it back to a Deadlandsy feel.).
