[DL] Re: Hello and a Question
I was wondering, in general, how popular Deadlands is
and if it has a bright future. I seem to have a bad
habit of getting into dead or dying RPGS. As it is
this game is replacing my Chill campaign. Chill is a
Horror RPG that is out of print. When I first got
into Teenagers from Outer Space several years ago it
went out of print. Etc.
I certainly see Deadlands-The Weird West as a mature system and world and I
don't expect to see much more really useful coming out for it either,
especially with John Goff leaving. But that does not mean it will up and
fade away completely. You just have to take the basis that the company has
provided for you and go from there, and Deadlands provides a great basis to
go almost anywhere.
Also, old games never really die, they just get more and more unpopular.
Though if you live in an area with few players fading away is really about
the same as death, I must admit. But , hey, you're connected to the
internet! I guarantee that you can find players for any RPG if you can
reasonably play it via E-mail and (www.pbem.com) is a good place to start.
I do love a face-to-face game myself but I don't have the time or the
players to do more than one campaign. (Living in Japan does have some
drawbacks, after all.) But that does not stop me from running three PBEM
campaigns and playing in one more.
So I recommend getting into Deadlands. It is a great work and will be well
worth the money.
