Actually, the sad thing is that everyone _would_ have cut him that
slack. In the end, he just couldn't cut _himself_ enough slack. He
maintained that he couldn't pull off the revised personality to his own
satisfaction. It really is a shame, because if the character had been
just a _touch_ less dysfunctional, he'd have been a bit like a
tougher-and-meaner version of Doc Holiday.
Now that he has Back East: the South, he's thinking of revamping the
character with the Honor hindrance. He (and I) think that would be a
closer approximation of the personality he was trying to convey in the
first place.
