[DL] Strength and Armor [possible spoilers] [Goff / Baron]
Howdy all, I've got a question about how Strenght
works in relation to armor. I'm going to split this
up so the potential spoiler portion is further down,
but since it's an example / clarification I wanted to
let others know they could read this part.
Quick clarification: I'm asking about 1st edition
rules since that's what we play with.
Here's the paragraphs in question, page 99 on the 1st
edition main book: "Armor stops fightin' atttacks as
well. Fightin' damage uses a character's Strength
Trait total plus the weapons's damage dice. If the
armor stoss the weapon's damage dice, it stops the
character's Strength roll as well - assuming the
character's using a weapon, that is. If a character
or critter isn't using a weapon, halve its Strength
die type plus any bonuses and round down to the
nearest damage die."
Pretty straight forward, right? But if I am using a
weapon, do I halve JUST the weapon damage dice and
leave the Strength dice at full, or do I halve the
weapon and Strength dice both, or do you only get the
weapon dice at a -1 die type per level of armor?
Spoiler part...
How does this work with a werewolf? Professor Jimmy
Jackson fuzzes out and goes after the hoard of demons.
The demons have a point of armor, and I take good
notes so I can ask about this later.
When Jackson attacks with claws, he does Strength
damage +1d6 "weapon" bonus. Well that 4 Jimmy got at
character creation had to go somewhere, so his
normally pathetic d4's in Strength become d10's, which
through a point of armor are d8's. The normal +1d6
weapon bonus for a claw attack becomes a d4.
But for the bite, there is no weapon damage and
therefore the d10's in Strenght get halved and rounded
to ... d4's? A werewolf can't bite someone for any
appreciable damage, but he can rip them in half???
You see my confusion. Clarification would be greatly
appreciated.
