I agree with all this, but when the group starts a fight and the GM reacts
with a realistic response (people fight back, get trounced, police
show-up, get trounced, DP gets called in) and the group responds by not
wanting to play anymore I can't but help feel that the players are acting
a bit... babyish. "We couldn't get away with beating everyone up and
stealing all the treasure without any consequences, we don't wanna play
anymore." :`(

I guess it depends on the group, but this sounds a lot like the old
hack-and-slash mentality that (IMHO) is the antithesis of a good RPG. As a
marshal/GM/DM/whatever I get very tired of running hack-and-slash games
(trying running D&D's old Undermoutain set for any length of time) and I'm
there to have fun just as much as the players.

But hey, everyone's different, so as long as everyone's looking for the
same thing, cool.
