Re: [BNW] Fwd: BNW review at RPGnet
My problem with the review is the "reviewer bias" that this guy doesn't even
try to hide. He seriously dislikes meta-plot games, says so, and then
advocates not buying this or other meta-plot games because he doesn't like
them. He only likes "superman" style superhero games, and slams the game
since it doesn't provide it. He likes quick character advancement, and
thinks the game doesn't provide it. Most of the review is "I like game type
A. This is not game type A, so it's BAD BAD BAD."
In a review, just tell me 1) how the system works, in thumbnail. 2) Major
background notes & 3) leave the personal bias out until the end notes. Don't
make the review a forum for your personal biases. And do not attribute
possible motives to the writer of the game unless you know them. As much as
J. Wick can annoy me, his article at Gaming Outpost about what's wrong with
reviews pretty much summed up what's going wrong in most RPG reviews these
days. And this review hit most of those problems. He had a few legit
concerns/comments, but overall he was just grousing.
As for the comments, Munch Wolf ascribing the meta-plot to "Matt's Ego" was
the worst offender to me.
