[BNW] Greetings, and a question
Hi there. My name's Patrick O'Duffy, I'm Australian, and I just picked
up 2 the core books of BNW.
Actually, I read through the books a few months ago, and I kinda liked
what I saw. I personally find the tone of BNW not quite right for me -
a little too PG-13 a treatment of the concepts - but I still thought it
had a lot of potential.
I've developed a framework for a campaign, which I may be running soon
(that, ABBERANT or UNKNOWN ARMIES). Unlike a lot of GMs, I tend to only
run limited-duration campaigns; I develop a strong idea of what I want
to do, put together a direction and plotline, then run it until the
conclusion. For this campaign ('Midnight Nation'), I came up with my
own version of the 'real story' behind BNW, centring on the war between
Heaven and Hell, the coming Apocalypse, and the truth about where delta
powers come from.
Anyway, self-congratulation aside, I do have a real question. As I
said, I have the two core books, so now I'm thinking about supplements.
Annoyingly, none of the local game stores have copies of the
supplements, just the 2 books and the screen. So if I want to buy any
of the books, it'll be sight unseen. So I'm hoping some of the kind
souls here can give me some details about which books would be most
useful.
I'm looking for certain things from the supplements:
1. Setting details. I may end up ignoring some or most of it, but it's
still good to have it on hand. In particular, info on Crescent City
(where the campaign starts) and Delta Prime (the PCs start as novice
Primers) would be good.
2. Power packages. Obviously. By and large, I want packages that are
fairly universal, fairly 'generic supers', rather than particularly
esoteric abilities. Knowing which books had which packages (and what
they were) would be a big help.
3. More rules. Actually, I don't much like rules, and I rather like
the basic simplicity of the BNW system. But I can see the need for some
areas to be fleshed out, such as Bargaining and Gadgeteering.
4. NPCs. I mean, I'll make my own, but it helps.
Stuff like metaplot info and history isn't much use to me, since I've
made up my own version. Still, it can always be handy for inspiration.
If anyone can give me details on the supplements (there are four,
right?), I'd be grateful.

Monstering... it's the art of abusing people. Of ambushing them with
questions, following them with questions, hounding them with questions,
driving them to their fucking graves with questions.
It's sort of like being a photographer, except we've never yet killed
any royalty doing it. Yet.
