Re: [BNW] Disaster Scenario
I agree completely about tension and pace, one builds the other. Unless the
character involved is some super speedy type, just run it in real time. By
doing this for the "setting the mood" part and descriptive fluff text (the
racing fire, dripping tiles, and sudden backdraft as the roof gives way on
the second floor) you get them thinking on their feet; when you finally and
dramatically introduce the dilema (Great Aunt Faussie collapsed in the
hallway as the fire races down the carpeting, and possibly the backdraft
cutting off the one secure way back out ::insert heroic rescue scene::) have
them roll for initiative and move into micromanaging turns. Time is now of
the essence. You get the idea. If you want to instigate near panic, threaten
them with Strength tests based on the level of toxic fumes they've been
inhaling. Nothin' scares a Hero more than the idea of an ignominious death.
When the first of them fails one and takes a "wound" from toxic gas (even if
its fatigue; passing out in a fire is also fatal) just watch those Delta
Points start a flowin'!
Hey, I like this thread. Anyone else have a Heroic disaster situation to
discuss? So far we've only mentioned fire. How about a disaster relief
scenario where supers rescue or hunt for survivors in the wake of hurricane
Andrew? El Nino, anyone? LOL.....
