Re: [BNW] Bomber variant...
I like your improvements...
Only one problem. Direction find could never determine distance (in real
life). Wave propagation is more art than science, and the distance a wave
has travelled (or even will travel) cannot be determined accurately. Even if
you know the strength of the broadcast, and try to compare that with the
strength of the reception. (any ham radio operators out there ever listen to
a signal from halfway around the world?). Finding the angle of the incoming
signal is, by comparison, pretty easy. It would work just like your hearing.
Each ear catching the signal at slightly different times and your mind works
out that it came from that-a-way.
That's the reason for having to triangulate by sampling the signal from
different locations. If you can determine direction AND distance you really
don't need to do this.
Sorry, radio wave theory major.....
Another evil thing would be:
Nuke-em: Each additional success on a broadcast roll allows the player to
broadcast focused microwaves at a target (yep, cook'em on down). Each extra
success equals 1" of range/area and 1d6 of massive damage that ignores armor
unless it is natural. Everything within the area takes the damage. Maximum
range/damage is equal to broadcast strength (not sure what you used for
this). So a 5d6 Broadcast power would have a max range/area of 5" (hexes)
and 5d6 massive damage per hex(but you'd need a roll of 30+ on your
broadcast. umm maybe later). Note: this is not a very effective use of the
broadcast power and would probably be a weapon of last resort. But it's
great for popping popcorn! This is one trick that must be declared in
advance (like some of the blaster tricks) because if the roll is botched the
player takes 1 wound of massive damage.
