Re: [BNW] The Hacker
I don't allow Hacker PCs in the cyberpunk games I run. They're a lose-lose
situation for the GM and the game: To do the character justice, you need to
spend too much time with one player while everyone else sits and twiddles
their thumbs. If you reduce the hacking to a couple of rolls, you're
cheating the character and player by not letting them shine where they're
supposed to. BNW offers nothing to change this.
Also, and I realize this is being nitpicky, but . . .
Can it truly be called a 'Power Package' if it's just a skill bonus that can
be achieved by a normal? Yes, a +10 is unnaturally high but ANY other
character - Delta or reg - could get the same bonus with XP. It would only
take 55. And, what does that mean? For 55 XP, players can buy a second
Power Package. Granted, it's arguing semantics, but I've already had it
pointed out by two of my players. (They wanted the Tough and Flyer
packages, though, not the Hacker).
