That's a little closer to what Matt seems to be aiming for with his "media
endorsement" thing. The closest analogy there would be Ozymandis and his
benefit performance (Issue #7 or 8, I think).
Still, I'm not sure the analogy works because there don't seem to be enough
heroes to hate. I must admit, in Watchmen, the rioting that results as a
result of the heroes (all six of them!) filling in for the police when the
latter goes on strike seems a little...odd.
I would have to re-read the series, but thinking back, it seems to me that
the public reacted (or overreacted) to heroes and _then_ the government
stepped in to limit vigilante activity with the Keane Act. (They needed a
law to deal with 2, maybe 3 heroes - Ozymandis had retired and Comedian and
Manhattan were sanctioned anyway, leaving Night Owl, Rorschch and a so-so
Silk Spectre - again, doesn't this strike anyone as a bit extreme?)
This sequence is the exact opposite of BNW, where the governments set out to
paint the Deltas as evil and _then_ the public bought into it.
