It's the "media endorsement" thing that, as I originally stated, I don't
follow. If the small people have "hate and jealousy", would they have
bought, say, The Flash as a sneaker-endorsement celebrity in the Miller/Dark
Knight universe?
As I recall, even Superman (who is a government-authority type) is hated and
feared in Miller's universe. As are Delta Primers, apparently. And that
makes perfect sense to me.
If you'll pardon a somewhat tasteless comparison, it's kinda like if Hitler
were trying to use Jewish celebrities to sell products to the German public
at the same time he was making speeches against them and shipping them off
to camps.
