I think the basic consensus was that BNW is designed to be a lower powered
super hero game, and that that is the reason for the power packages being
the way they are.
Many people have put together new tricks and power packages and posted
them on the web. A good jump off site might be:

If you (or your players) are really itching for more power there will be a
supplement later (according to an interview with Matt Forbeck) that covers
Alphas.
