Rules for range penalties for larger than size 1 objects already exist in
the rulebooks. They seem reasonable and are close to what you put above.

That's why I did 1/2 str. 2d6 is human norm. So humans can throw size 1
objects 1-handed, but anything bigger requires 2. Strong regs can have a
5d6 str, so they can still hurl bowling balls and poodles 1 handed.
