Introduction

Welcome to the network ChineseCheckers server. The rules for ChineseCheckers are below. Here you will find descriptions of the challenge, move, and set commands for ChineseCheckers. Other commands are the same for all games. Send "help commands" for a list of commands used by all pbmserv games.

chinesecheckers challenge [ -long ] [ -### ] userid1 userid2 [...userid6]
Start a new game. Games may include from 2 to 6 players.

The -long option starts a game of Super Chinese Checkers, which allows long jumps.

There is an optional parameter available, consisting of a series of numbers which represent the starting positions of each player. The default values for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 players are -14, -135, -1346, -12346, and -123456 respectively. The initial board positions are shown below. Some other interesting settings could be -12 (two players race in the same general direction across the board), -123 (three player race across the board), -142536 (an alternate turn order instead of "play proceeds to the left").

Make a move. A move is a series of two or more coordinate pairs. Listing the intermediate jumps is optional, as the server will find the shortest path of jumps for you.

chinesecheckers set userid password [normal/rotate]
Choose whether the board should rotate so that your pieces are always shown moving from bottom to top.

normal : Do not rotate the board.
rotate : Rotate the board so that your pieces are always shown moving from bottom to top.

ChineseCheckers Rules

ChineseCheckers is played on a 6-pointed star-shaped board. The goal is to move all ten of your pieces from one point of the star to the opposite point of the star before anyone else does.

Pieces may move a single space in any of the six directions, or they may make one or more jumps. When jumping, a piece jumps over another adjacent piece and lands in the empty space on the other side. The same piece may then proceed to make additional jumps if desired. Pieces are never captured in ChineseCheckers and there is no limit to the number of consecutive jumps which may be made in one turn.

Super Chinese Checkers

If the -long option is used when creating a game, you can use long jumps which increase the complexity of the game. When making a long jump, you must jump a single piece and land the same number of spaces away from the piece on the opposite side.
