2000 E-mail Tournament Results
This year was the 8th time this annual tournament has been run. It started back at the start of February with 25 entries. Players were divided into four pools where everyone played the traditional round robin format, with all games in a given round played simultaneously on Richards PMBServer. Players had a 5 day per move time limit, with off-line analysis of the game allowed. The top 3 players plus ties progressed to round 2. Players in pool C struck it lucky, with almost the whole pool progressing! There were two pools in round 2, again with the top 3 players advancing to the final.
Part way through round 2 disaster struck, in the form of a very severe crash of Richard's PBMServer. All of the games in progress (about a third at that stage) were lost, and had to be retrieved from the players. There were also significant delays with some key players vacations arriving before their games were completed. However, by September everything was back on track, and the final began.
In the results shown below, players marked with a green background progressed to the next round.
The e-mail tournament winner for 2000 was dgb (Donald Bailey), although the result was on the wire right up until the last game was completed.
