Jodi, I did not have this problem with a baby but with another dog.
Charlie put up with anything – pulling tail, chewing ears, sleeping on
top of him – from Harry my pug puppy when he was a puppy. As soon
as he was about a year old and looked “mature” (both dogs were
neutered young) , all bets were off. Charlie no longer put up with any
puppy stuff and growled his displeasure. Harry was smart enough to
realize that meant act submissive and move away. The two boys do get
along well most of the time, but Charlie is dominant and Harry respects it and
gives way. Sometimes I have commented and Charlie stops right away, since
he respects that I am top dog, but I always reinforce that Harry must give
way. If your dog is acting the same way with the baby, I would be
very worried. Babies do not understand submission and have no defense
against any size dog. I would be worried if my pug gave the baby a “look”
too. I am sure that there are people who can help you reinforce the
pack positions so the dog recognizes that he has now slid below the baby in
rank, but please be very careful and keep them separated. Amy From: owner-pyrnet-l@pyrnet.org
