We foster Pyr and Malamute puppies for local rescue organizations, and now must replace the old carpet in the family room where the puppies' crates are and where they play. The carpet just can't take anymore pee or poop! We want to replace it with tile or go green with some kind of engineered wood or, perhaps, bamboo. What has been folks' experience with these kinds of wood flooring? Do they stain easily? Does water soak in? Are they all slippery? Are some brands or types of wood better than others?

I am surprised how many pyrs have a taste for baked goods. My first pyr, Jascha, loved bread. Cheese bread was his favorite. He rarely condescended to regular Pepperidge Farm sandwich bread, had to be the good homemade or better bakery stuff. As he got way older, arthritic and blind, I would sometimes leave a loaf on the counter just to see how he was doing. If it disa-pyr-ed, he was ok, if not he really was not feeling well and needed a vet visit.
My female, Sweetie, looks to be an angel but she is the current counter cruiser. Very clever girl, but if the boys are in the crates and she is the only one loose, it is obvious who the culprit is. Loves the couch too.
She'll fluff up the pillows so she has a head rest and can stretch from one
end to the other. Ikea sells washable slip covers for their couches so I
have two sets.

Please, Please, PLEASE - I beg you, do not leave cereal boxes anywhere the dog can get them. I lost my beautiful Chocolate Lab, CJ, 5 years ago from suffocation. He got into a box of cereal that was left out on the counter while we were at work, and that plastic bag the cereal is in was the perfect size to fit tightly over his muzzle. I can not describe the feeling to find your beloved pet dead with a bag over its muzzle. If you have to, buy rubbermaid containers to pour the cereal into.

On the opposite end of counter surfer and sweet tooth I once had a pyr that
hated to eat and was such an awful eater that I used to put a bowl of food
in the doorways of rooms I wanted to keep him away from. And even more
ridiculous, it worked! His passion was Jello. We had a house that was 3
rooms deep and he would run from the living room, through the dining room and
slam through the swinging kitchen door and almost knock me over when he
smelled the Jello. It had more impact than beef or chicken or anything to get
his appetite going. He was over 33" at the withers from old timer Kohler's
Eszterhazy kennels (if you know the early people who first had pyrs in this
country MANY years ago you know the name) and he weighted maybe 100 lbs so
we were forever trying to find something he liked to eat. He had seizures
and was a physical mess but he was my first pyr 35 yrs ago so I had no
idea. Anyway, I've come a loooong way since then.
