Ha Ha, sounds like our Pyrs have all of us trained well!!!! Both of my dogs eat from elevated ceramic bowls, twice a day. No fooling around though - they both wolf it down, but Timber, our Lab, is always finished first. I also have an almost 2 year old human baby in the house, and she finds great delight in 'feeding' the dogs too. I never knew that Liberty aka Bitty Girl (our 5 1/2 yr old Pyr) liked manderin oranges. Our daughter likes to drop items from her high chair for the dogs - she is pretty fair too, drops food off one side for Bitty, then the other for Timber. Before the baby, we had the dogs trained pretty well to stay out of the kitchen during our meal time - my husband HATES begging. Liberty even goes so far as to stick her big head under the tray of the high chair and clean off whatever she can from Sarah's bib and lap - then I get to wipe off disgusting dog slobber from Sarah's legs. Melissa, mom to Sarah, Liberty (pyr), Timber (lab), Cuddles (rescue siamese) and baby #2 due any day now!! Interesting topic. My Pyr, Czar, will stop short of eating out of his stainless steel bowl right before he gets to the bottom. He will then stop, stare at the bowl, and talk to it. I then have to walk over to the bowl, shake up the food, bend over and tilt and hold the bowl for him to finish. Czar is almost 7, and I had to start doing this about 2 years ago. I have assumed he doesn't like the feel of the stainless steel on his tongue. But, I have tried different bowls, plastic, ceramic, etc, and he still does the same thing.
Is this a Pyr thing? None of my other working dogs have ever acted in this fashion before. I just tell him he is being silly....:-)
