RE: [pyrnet] old pyr health question

My first pyr, Jascha, loved bread. It was the only thing he would always
steal from the kitchen counter. If a roast were next to the bread,
especially cheese bread, he would take the bread. When he was very old and
did not move around much due to arthritis and was blind from cataracts, I
would leave bread on the counter every couple of weeks to judge how he was
feeling. Until the end, it was always gone - stolen without a crumb left
behind.

Josie is almost ten now and she always stands when eating. I read somewhere
that because of their height, Pyrs have a harder time swallowing food while
standing. As she grew, I elevated her water and food higher and now she
uses a feeder designed for taller dogs.

It's about the same height as the toilet bowl, which as you all know is the
favorite drinking place for all pyrs. But it's not as tall as the kitchen
table, which is their favorite place to eat.
