Re: [pyrnet] GReat Pyrenees Question/collars

That is true. I did have someone help me teach Ben to wear the gentle leader in a pupy class. The easy leader harness,is more novice friendly, but it is always a good idea to take a class. I really like the puppy classes, with I have done with all my babies from Lhasas to Ben, my Pyr. It just seems to set the right tone. It is amazing how much a puppy can learn and retain at 3 months old, then if you want to do more extensive training, it is your choice. Both Lhasas and Pyrs seem to have an independent streak which I find charming, so I think a gentle puppy training class is a good way to begin to bond.

All  collars  have their   good   and  bad  points but  there is  one
important  factor  not  being  mentioned.  The  success and/or  failure  of
a  particular method --- be  it  for  a  halti,  gentle leader,  prong  or
choke collar,  is  being  aware  of  the  proper  way to  use  that
particular  method.  If  you  are  unfamiliar with  them,  your  best
investment is  to invest  in a  session  with  a  dog  professional,  have
them assess  what  your  dog is  doing,  and  then  fit  your  dog  with
the  appropriate tool AND instruct  you  on its  proper  placement on the
dog  and  how  to  use it.  Within  an  hour investment,  walking and
control of your  dog  can  be  a  world of  difference.
