RE: [pyrnet] Thunder and Lightning
Brendan;
I am glad you posted this inquiry, as Czar has the same issues with storms
as well as gun fire. He is getting somewhat better, but heads to the shower
stall once the air pressure changes; that is how I know a storm is coming;
he is my weather forecaster! I have tried not to play up his fears, just
let him go about his stay in the shower until the storm passes. Or, I try
and play games with him to distract him from the sound of the thunder. When
neighbors in the distance fire handguns or it is hunting season, he heads to
the house and into the basement; I am still not sure how to address this, as
he seems fine once he feels he is in a protected and "sound proof" area.
Funny how he is so afraid of thunder and gun shots, but I could practically
run him over with the noisy Dyson pet vacuum cleaner and it doesn't phase
him a bit.

Hey All,
The boy is developing intense fear of thunder. We had bad storms roll
through last night resulting in whimpering, crying, and lots of shaking. I
realize paying attention to him will just reinforce the behavior. In
addition, I live behind a high school football field. When track meets are
in play, the cap gun utilized to initiate a race frightens him as well.
I am writing to see if there is anything I can do to minimize the impact.
One thought is to play a cd with thunderstorms on it on a gradual scale
until it's just background noise to him. Any other thoughts?
Thanks.
