Well Folks had a very close call two days ago.
My Ringo<sheltie> nearly died by suffocation! I was downstairs watching a movie,
went upstairs for I would say two minutes perhaps 3 and when I came back
down I noticed Ringo lying on his side. Upon a closer look, the lights were
not on I could see he had a plastic bag over his head. I immediately took
the bag off, I was getting almost no response!! His breathing was not good
and his heart was slow. He had a stool movement as well. I would say the end
was close. I blew into his nose/mouth and messaged his heart. I took him
right away to the vet closest to me here in town. He seemed to improve while
we were there and the vet gave dexametazone. Home we went and I gave him
rescue remedy every 2 hours.
The bag was from Triscuit crackers, it was very heavy plastic... Please
remind others to make sure they dispose of dangers like that. The box was in
the little garbage can by the computer. Easy for him to get...Another danger
I am told is the tips off of milk bags.
I have received several replies from the sheltie list regarding tragedies with triscuit bags and boxes. I have also had replies about dogs dying with chip bags over the heads as well. A chip bag could be large enough to suffocate a pyr I would think.
Ringo seems very good today I am so happy I was able to get to him in time. What a scare that was...
