RE: [pyrnet] EMERGENCY Pyr will be euthanized on Friday if not rescued from shelter in Georgia

Any news????

I do not know if I will be able to help or not - how frustrating!!!!!

I am trying to contact a friend who lives in Atlanta to see if she would
physically be able to pick him up and take him to a boarding kennel until
another option surfaces.

I am working tomorrow, Friday, and until 7pm on Sat.. From 7pm Sat until
7pm Sunday, I will be willing to help transport to ..........?

I live in the pittsburgh, Pa area.

I have posted to the Craigslist in Atlanta, which is close by. The page is
at:

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/88832099.html

I have also contacted the Great Pyrenees Club of the Southeast which also
does
rescues, adn sent an email to Sande Wheeler, their cnotact person explaining
this dog's plight and asking if they can get someone to the dog adn get him
out.
I mentioned that our group may be able to raise funds to defray any rescue
fees
(can we work on doing this, folks?).

Their website is at:

http://www.bskys.com/gpcse/

and I found them ini a national listing of Pyrenees erscue groups.

I would call her (Sande at GPCSE), but (yeah, I know this is sooo stooopid,
buuuut...) I don't have long distance service. If someone could please call
her, the number is (770) 228-6638. I don't know how often she is online or
checks her email, I think it would be best if someone could please attempt
to
contact her in person.

I am going out of town on Friday for a week, but if it can be arranged to
get
the dog out and up to Denver I am willing to foster him and find a home for
him,
possibly arrangements can be made in my absence with Kyle, my girlfriend
(whom I
adopted Osa for). I'll have to talk to her, adn there are others here in
Denver
who can take him if we can get him out adn up this way.

Before anybody gets too involved, please note this comment on the Petfinder
site:

NOTE: CCAC CANNOT ADOPT ONLINE OR OVER THE PHONE. ADOPTIONS MUST BE DONE IN
PERSON.

So, even if you got transport, it is very possible that you (or whomever)
could
not get the dog. Whether or not they release to rescue groups is not clear.

I don't know what rescue list Sandy Wheeler's name came off of but the SE
club
has been mostly inactive for quite a while. For "odd" states like GA
without a
truly local club, the best resource is the GPCA rescue rep. Please check
this
site http://clubs.akc.org/gpca/gpcaresq.html
and choose Rescue Contacts. There you will see rescue help for the states
and
the three nationally regional reps. In the case of GA, Terry Stephanick (No
FL
Pyr club) is both the GA contact and the eastern US Rep. Terry was the one
who
oversaw the pulling of the last two GA dogs. You really will get better
help
from the GPCA network and especially from Terry who is simply amazing.

Matt, have you been in touch with the Mile High GPC about rescue in general
or
this dog in particular? You may be very welcome to work with local rescue
there. Every area has more need than help. And, if this dog comes in to the
Denver area will he possibly take up a home that Mile High really needs for
a
local dog?

For example we here in the NW have 10 dogs currently looking for homes. We
would not be enthusiastic about the arrival of another from the other side
of
the country.
