Make sure the dog's tongue is not in the way FIRST. So if immediate reprisal is needed perhaps a LOUD OUCH followed by no bite and removal from area for a minute or two. (in crate or on a mat. ) Just be consistant with what you do and make sure if you decide( I don't recommend) holding their mouth shut, their tongue could get pierced. You want your dog to WANT to come to you, not associate you with pain .

In addition to the above, you can also just hold his mouth shut, and tell him "No Mouth" when this occurs. "MOUTHING" is a normal activity among canine puppies, but obviously is not acceptable behavior with humans. This type of "Correction" is also beneficial in that it gets your Pyr used to your physically handling him. In the future, if you ever have to administer any medication to him orally, he will already be used to your handling him in this manner.
