Both of my Pyrs kept their baby canines for a long time. Jascha's
fell out on their own, but Charlie's were removed at about ten months when he
was neutered and microchipped. Poor guy was sore all over for a couple of
days.
Based on the amount of root still left Charlie's primary teeth were not
going to come out on their own, but without x-rays, we would not have known
that. If he had not been going through anesthesia anyway, we probably
would have x-rayed. Besides Hubby is a dentist so teeth get special
attention here. We sent photos of the over-retained canine canines before
removal to a human pathology instructor friend as a joke but he used them in a
lecture to discuss the need for reviewing the whole patient not just the
specimen.
BTW there was no need to consider orthodontic treatment for either dog, and
their teeth are well aligned.
So the end result is that it might be a bit early to worry, but see the
dentist for sure.

Probably by the time I am answering your question the teeth
have probably started to come loose :o) I really am not an expert on teeth, my
thoughts are give her more time to lose these offending teeth, or I suppose
the easy answer is ask your vet. I tend to think that it is the toy
breeds that have this sort of problem but certainly not unheard of in larger
breeds. Maybe when the teeth start to push through these puppy teeth will
start to move out of the way. There is another Pyr group that might have some
more insight great_pyrenees@yahoogroups.com
I wish I could be more help.

Subject: [pyrnet] Retaining puppy
teeth
Hello folks,
We noticed that our new Pyr puppy (4.5months old) is starting to get
her adult incisors on the top jaw. However two of the outermost
incisor (nearest the canines) puppy teeth have not fallen out yet...they
actually seem quite firm. Since she is destined for the show ring and I have
read that retained puppy teeth can cause an improper bite should a person
take her to the vet to have them extracted?
Your advise and experience is much appreciated.
