Re: [pyrnet] New member

Thanks Jenn, Geraldine and Beth for your input regarding Tobys eyelid growth. We have an appointment made but I also have him on the cancellation list because they could not fit us in until the 30th. Up to this point we have really not been concerned about the look of this growth, now I am not as happy, it has changed rather quickly and is now very obvious by its presence. I think to have the blood work done is an excellent suggestion and I am sure they would  insist on it because of his age, 9 years. I will talk at great length with our vet regarding the anaesthetic, we are relatively new to this particular vet and I don't know what her experience is with Pyrs. Thanks again.

My vet does blood work prior to surgery to check organ function to ensure that the pet will be able to metabolize the anesthesia.  You might also ask if they plan to provide your dog with fluids during the surgery.  If not, you can request that they do to help flush the stuff through him more quickly.  Good luck.

Hi. I am new to this group and have been enjoying reading all of the emails of the last few days, but decided not to join in until today, I have a question about growths on eye lids. I am sure most queries have already surfaced at least once before but here goes with this one: My 9 year old Pyr Toby has had this small growth probably getting bigger over at least two years, twice mentioned at the vets we determined that it wasn't giving  aggravation or problem to his cornea etc. Just this week we notice that there is another little extra part that has grown, now I am worried that it might have to be taken off, my reluctance is more about his age and the anaesthetic effect. He has been a very healthy boy all of his nine years, most visits to the vets have been for shots up to this point. His litter brother, a show dog, had one removed about a year ago for asthetic reasons and I believe that they take as much from under the growth  as you can see above. I hate to put him through the whole surgery thing but I probably know what's the best thing to do but would be interested to hear of others experiences with these growths. Thank you.
