Shirley, 
Deramaxx is an NSAID just like Rimadyl.  In reality you only trade one set of side 
affects for another.  It's just a matter of when you get down to having to use them if 
your dog does good on one or not.  There have been a number of adverse side 
affects reported to both Deramaxx and Metacam.
