RE: [pyrnet] [dthoele1@hotmail.com: Entry to Guestbook]
Czar, my 2 year old Pyr is an avid 100% house dog; the bed, couch, chairs,
etc are his comfort. (except in the winter when he would live outside in -20
degree weather 7 x 24 if I would let him) He becomes very vocal and
nocturnal when darkness falls, and will protect the property by his bark
even if a mosquito flies over. Fortunately, I live way out in the country
so the barking is not bothersome to anyone. I began brushing him the very
day he came home at 8 weeks of age, and he absolutely loves it. I at least
run the brush through his coat a few times a day to keep brush, leaves,
dirt, slobber and debris from sticking. Czar also goes to a groomer once
every 3 months for a bath as well as trim in the tail, pants, hocks, wings
and ear areas. Since I do this, he does not really blow his coat at a
particular time during the year; daily brushing is all I need to keep up
with his daily hair loss. I will say that a Pyr looses a lot less hair than
Alaskan Malamutes, which loose every strand of hair they have twice a
year....I have actually had hats made from their fur, as I have a ton of it!
I would recommend keeping your Pyr socialized as best as possible; puppy
classes, dog parks, anyplace where he can maintain regular contact with
other canines. You mentioned your Pyr has learned basic commands quickly;
Czar was the same way- we completed (5) dog classes and is now a pet therapy
Pyr...from this respect they are very trainable;(with POSITIVE reinforcement
training only) however, they are extremely focused when "working" to protect
your property.
Good luck to you...just keep a brush handy daily, and the hair loss should
be minimal.

You have a new entry in your guestbook:

We have acquired a GP to replace our aging Anatolian Shepherd to used as a
guardian for our sheep. The only problem is that the GP has never made it
outside as we have enjoyed him too much in the house. He is housebroken and
learning basic obedience commands very quickly. I would like some advice
from anyone regarding how much shedding is typical and how is it controlled;
at this point he is not a barker, when does this start; any other
suggestions for maintaining a Pyr in the house. My husband and I are not
new to the world of dogs, only new to this particular breed. Any
information would be greatly appreciated Deanne <dthoele1@hotmail.com>
