Re: [pyrnet] new puppy

Thanks for your reply Beth, guess he just hasn't learned yet. He is only 10
weeks old. But, oh, so sweet. I didn't realize I should take him out so
often and didn't know I should use the same door. He can go all night
though without going to the bathroom so I think he might be able to hold it
pretty well. Anyway, thanks for the helpful words and encouragement. I will
do what you suggest and I appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Loretta Tyson

Repetition, praise, repetition, praise, over and over and over
again.....when I first bring a puppy home, it starts right away, with an
"outside" command, a happy voice, and going immediately to the same door to
go outside, every 20 minutes whether they need to or not. Once outside, and
they have done their thing, LOTS of praise! Make a huge deal out of it.
Consistency, repetition, and praise are the key. Czar learned immediately
and only had about 2 accidents ever after I had brought him home.
Otherwise, if the above is not successful, you will need to use the crate,
but the crate needs to be viewed as a positive and safe place for your new
puppy to go, not as a punishment. Dogs will not typically soil their
sleeping environment, but as soon as you remove him from the crate, take him
immediately outside and do the song and dance listed above.

If/when he does pee on the other dogs bed, a firm "no" and repeat above to
take him outside. If this does not work, you may want to have him vet
checked to confirm an infection of some type does not exist.

Be patient, use positive reinforcement, and be consistent.

Best of luck!

I am a new owner of a grt pyrenees puppy and am having a difficult tiime
trying to train him. First of all, I've never had a male dog, I think they
must be more stubborn. Secondly, he will come in from out doors and pee on
my female dog's bed, he has chosen her bed to pee on most of the time. Is
this a dominence thing? Although, he also likes to go in our bedroom where
we all sleep and go to the bathroom. He has a crate but I try to not keep
him in it unless we are all resting, sleeping or unable to keep an eye on
him. Please help.
Sincerely,
Loretta Tyson
