Re: [pyrnet] diet and fiber

Hi Karen -

I've been feeding my Gypsy (she's almost 5 years old) a BARF type diet for about 4 years now.  I'm not a fanatic about it, and she does get dog food here and there, but she's done great on the raw.  I've come to look at dog food the same way that I look at junk food for people - it's ok sometimes, and some don't seem to be adversely affected by it, but it's always better to have the real thing!  I tried BARF in desperation when Gypsy had a problem with chronic lip fold dermatitis - the vet couldn't figure out why, and after eliminating many other things we wondered if it might be something in her food that she was sensitive to.  I switched her to raw so that I could be sure I was only adding single things to her diet.  We started with raw chicken, and slowly added one thing and then another.  We never did figure out what that one thing is in dog food that seems to bother her, but it doesn't really matter because now I'm sold on the fresh stuff and that comprises the majority of her diet.  There are a lot of others on the list - I'm sure that you'll be hearing from some of them!
