RE: [pyrnet] getting "fixed"...no advice??

Jeff;
I know it is difficult in keep a Pyr pup down after being fixed. I had my
male, Czar, neutered at 7 months, and everything went well, however, he did
end up licking it excessively. So, we needed to try the Venetian
collar...well that worked for about 5 minutes, as the poor guy couldn't see
a thing and was constantly running into everything in the house as well as
trees, etc... The vet provided me with a steroid powder to ease the surface
redness and prevent the licking, which did help. You may want to ask for
this up front after surgery, just in case you may need it in a pinch. It
cools and sooths the incision area as well.
Czar wanted to run and play the night I brought him home, but I tried to
keep him quiet for at least a day. I am also in a rural area where he can
run through brush, weeds, dirt, sand, woods, etc...but nothing bothered the
suture except his own licking..I would say just keep a daily eye on the
incision and try and avoid excessive running or steep stairs for a few days;
I know its difficult, but generally all goes very well with a spay or
neuter. Hope this helps.....sorry for the delayed response...:-)

I wrote this yesterday and have received zero responses. Did it not make it
to the list? Or did I somehow offend everyone? I would appreciate hearing
how others have dealt with this.

Thanks,
Jeff
