Re: [pyrnet] Pig Ears

<< Tracy, which bones do you feel are the best?>> Cat

Well, first thing to realise is that I feed raw so my dogs get to chew,
crunch and tear on raw meaty bones pretty much every day as a part of their
diet. Very theraputic for them as well as good nutritionally. These
animals are carnivores afterall.

I dont generally give large hard bones like beef leg bones. These bones are
known for causing teeth breakages and wear, particularly if the dog is an
agressive chewer. I would NEVER give these bones in a smoked/dried/boiled
form as that just makes them even harder. When giving them raw, I would
always give them in their whole form and not cut in any way to expose the
marrow as I want the dog to concentrate on chewing on the ends and not the
hard artificial saw cut edges. I would also limit chewing time.

Now, my preferred choice for bones are rawMEATYbones. I feed things like
whole lamb necks, pork necks, pork hocks and feet, lamb ribs/flaps, kangaroo
tails, whole rabbit, whole oxtails, turkey necks, wings and frames, duck
halves or quarters, chicken frames, whole or half chickens or chicken
quarters (I dont feed chicken wings or necks as a rule as they are IMO too
small to be of any real benefit to my big dogs ). These are large meaty
pieces that require at least some work for them to consume (their teeth,
jaws and for some even their whole body can get a workout) but which can be
consumed in their entirety, bone and all.
