[pyrnet] re: Rescue

Dear Sharon, I agree with you that breeders should be able to help with
rescue. For the most part I believe most responsible breeders do just that.
If it were mandatory that ALL breeders offered this,(despite the
inconvenience,) maybe some of the "less-responsible" ones would be a bit
more selective as to who gets the pup, knowing they would get the dog back if
it didn't work out. Also, it may reduce abuse or neglect on the new owners
part, if they know they can take the dog back where they got it, rather than
abandoning or abusing it. For the most part I seem to get the impression the
breeders get the "dirty end of the stick" No matter how diligent in finding
and screening prospective pyr parents, there will always be those who have
to wage "a battle of wits with unarmed people "! There are probably more
reasons (excuses) that people give when they have to "get rid of it" than
anything else...I wouldn't even ask why (to avoid being lied to ) At least
you'd have the satisfaction of knowing it's safe. I can't imagine people
getting rid of their animals to the first person who comes along, especially
if they know little or nothing of the breed ...it just starts the vicious
cycle all over again. It all seems so unfair , but from what I have heard
about responsible breeders, is " they're not in it for the money" since it
often COSTS them money to breed, but are in it for the love and preservation
of the breed.
