This was exactly our experience, Robyn. One of the things our trainer did,
to demonstrate her point, was to have us try both a pinch and a choke
around our own arms. The choke actually pinches and hurts more. But
something about the pinch had exactly the desired effect on Paddington,
who went through a period of wanting to take off after the occasional
other dog who had no business being in his world. We never had to correct
with it--just having it on reminded him of what we expected. I would use
one again in a minute for a large, strong, determined dog. Tori, on the
other hand, is so sensitive to both touch and voice that a simple buckle
collar is all we've needed so far for walking and for obedience work.
Depends on the dog.
Ann, Peg, Tori and Ivy Rose (doesn't matter what they put on me--I'll
continue to do what I want to do and refuse anything else.)
