So...for all of you who have good weight records (check your Vet book for
weight and age) please send me your info (also please indicate if the records
are for a male or female). Format is not that important but lets use:
MALE (OR FEMALE)
WEIGHT AGE
xx lbs xx months
XX lbs xx months
etc.
I am definitely not an expert in puppies, but I do have one who just turned 4 months old, and weighed 51.5 lbs today. I feed him Premium Edge Lg. Brd. Puppy.
I have done quite a bit of reading on puppy nutrition, and most of that recommends switching to adult food between 12 -18 months, and not to try to put any excess weight on them during the first 18 months due to their hips not being fused yet. You might also find interesting data on "digestible protein" Vs "indigestible protein". Dog chow, and most grocery store brands use corn, and corn glutton meal as their primary source of protein, which is not nearly as digestible, as meat, or rice. Some even go as far as to break down the corn into it's simpler components to make it appear that it isn't the primary ingredient. There a lot of premium brands with meat as the primary ingredient, and some are even in line with Purina in price.
