<<What is wrong with people?! Suddenly British Columbia has
become a puppy producing paradise. For the first time ever there
are 4 ads in our local newspaper for Pyr pups....from "ready now"
to 6 months of age....and now I just got a call from the shelter
that there is yet another litter from an "accidental" breeding
that needs placing. Add to
that the 18 month old male that his owners want to dump because
A. they are moving and can't take him or B. he is aggressive and
the neighbours are complaining (the owners copped up 2 different
answers on 2 separate occassions). They say the breeder of this
dog is not interested in helping to place the dog. This is not
the only young aggressive male
that "rescue" has tried to deal with this year.

We have seen a big upswing on breeders out of the province
willing to sell breedable dogs to B.C. without doing any
reference checks. The names on these backyard pups pedigrees
will astound you. They are Club members and actively show in the
US and Canada. Many BIG name breeders have sent intact dogs here
to so-called responsible breeders (yah...they
SAY that they are responsible) and now we are seeing the impact
of their $$$ and ego greed. These BIG breeders kennel names will
be appearing on puppy mill pedigrees soon....I can guarantee it.
And because they are out of province they figure it no longer
becomes their problem...no mess to clean up at home, let someone
else do it. There is an increase of
breeders selling pairs of dogs up here too without requiring
provisions to have them altered. Puppies from these so-called
"breeders" are showing up more and more into our non-existant
rescue group. In fact,
one person asked where he could drop off his dog to our rescue
center! I am the ONLY breeder in this province that is actively
involved in rescue. There are several other CKC (NOTE: CKC in
this case, stands for Canadian Kennel Club) breeders in this
province but they are not involved...by choice (how
convenient)...so it falls onto me to assist these people. I can
only do referrals.

So...to those people who have ever bred a litter....wake up!
These rescue dogs could one day be one of yours. Where are you
to help? IF YOU DON'T DO RESCUE....DON'T BREED! If you do breed
sell only early spay/neuter pups, ask other responsible breeders
in the area for a reference on the new puppy person (they often
know who the BYB are). And if I ever find out that any of you
will not support a dog of your breeding (whether you own the sire
or the dam) I will certainly make sure that the rest of the breed
fancy will know about it.

Flame suit on....
