[pyrnet] grooming question

hi, i use a gentle leader for my 6 month old pup mellow but i noticed he 
always has mats behind his ears. it took me a couple of weeks to make the 
connection but i am sure now that its from the gentle leader collar. any 
suggestions on how to deal with them? i have been using a combo of stuff to 
get them out (comb, slicker, rake) but they keep reappearing and i was 
wondering if anyone knows how to prevent them. NOT wearing the gentle leader 
collar is NOT an option for us. i cant walk him without it (obedience class 
doesnt start til october...sigh)
