[pyrnet] Hardwood or Carpet?

Just putting in my two cents worth...
We have red oak floors (original to the house) and I wouldn't have it any other way.  All wood and tile and slate.  We sweep twice a day and we still have hair everywhere.  I told my neighbor just yesterday that if I should ever leave this house whomever buys it will be sweeping up dog hairs for years to come.      THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!
Now my mother-in-law has two poodles in the house.  She also has carpet.  She has had that carpet cleaned several times and the spots that the girls (the poodles) made have not been able to be removed and the house smells more like "dog" than mine does.
That's something I take great pride and satisfaction in.  It may smell like last nights gumbo, fish or whatever, but it doesn't smell like dog!!!!!!!!!  I really think that's because we have hard wood floors and leather furniture.  Nothing for it to really get down into.
PLUS...Bear and Sugar Bear go to the vet for a bath every other Friday.  They don't stay outside for long periods of time.  We walk and stuff but they don't get to do the rolling in the dirt and digging that lots of dogs do.  So they aren't bringing all that nasty mess in the house.  BUT if they did, I have hard wood and it wouldn't be so difficult to clean.

For those who have served in the Armed Forces (regardless of branch), thank you for serving my country.

As we celebrate Independence Day, let us not forget those that have been willing to give their lives ~ yesterday, today and tomorrow ~ so that others may be free!

Happy Independence Day to you all,

GOD BLESS THE USA!!!!!!!

Of course you have to be careful of the growing bones and joints of pups. When we had the hardwood, and puppies at the same time, we used throw rugs for traction for them. Hardwood is tough on the old dogs, too. I did not/do not allow the dogs to roughouse inside. That's what outside is for. <G> Every once in a while, my Son gets the Pyrs going in the house. They start running, I start yelling, and Bo hits the linoleum and generally loses his footing and goes down. Gave my Son such a tongue lashing last time, that he hasn't done it in quite a while! But I HATE carpeting, always have. With old dogs and pups, carpeting is a distinct disadvantage in some ways. There are a few spots on the carpeting here, that no matter how much I clean them, and with what, the odor always returns. So, it's more or less a toss up. Hardwood/laminate floors or carpeting. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.
