I did notice that it originally started when I gave them well water from my
old house

Your well water might have check OK when you first bought the house, but
depending on what is feeding your well, its status might have changed.  We
too have a well (for the barn -- house on city water), and was told that we
should check the water quality periodically.  This is especially necessary
if you have livestock near the water source.
