Jeannie-- I think you should look into taking Miss Bonnie to a group
obedience class. Especially if this is your first dog, you would really
benefit from the support and you would get a feel for how to best work
with/train Bonnie. As for being reliable off of a leash, Pyrs just
generally aren't. If you are used to seeing Goldens or Labs or Border
Collies trotting along beside their owner without a leash, it may be
hard to imagine that you can't get a Pyr to do the same thing, but it
just isn't in their nature. My Pyr is obedience trained and a suburban
housedog. He sleeps on a bed in my room and has since he was 8 weeks
old. We are very bonded. But I would *never* let him off of a leash
outside a fenced area.
