[pyrnet] Re: Precious Pyrs
Dear Fellow Pyr People -
We're new to the list and glad you're all here! Our "kids" are 3 yr old
Murphy, & almost 3 yrs Molly, both neutered. Murph's a fancy gentleman, with
regal bearing and great manners. Molly's a forever puppy, cute as a cub bear
and, up until last week, full of pyr pep.
We almost lost our little sweetie to what appears to be pneumonia -- possibly
due to inhalation of a foreign body (grass?) into the left lung. Thank
goodness for a great vet who's cared for the pups since they were 8 weeks
old. Molly was somewhat lethargic a week ago, coinciding with hot weather so
we weren't overly alarmed. Her appetite, which is always eager, didn't
noticeably diminish right up 'til Monday morning's urgent run to the vet.
Labored breathing, gulping for air, limp body. Scary!
Lots of tests, x-rays, probing, consultations with radiologists. Nothing
definitive, except mass of fluid in left lung, fluid in chest cavity. Drain
inserted, poor results. Condition termed "life threatening." Heavy doses
antibiotics & anti inflammatory started Monday night. Slight improvement
within 12 hours, continued gradual improvement since. Brought her home
Thursday, continuing meds. More x-rays to be taken Monday.
Okay - I know this is wordy, but wanted to share background in case someone
has helpful knowledge to share that may aid in Molly's recovery. She's much
improved, but a long from way from recovered. Your input will be greatly
appreciated.
Like all Pyr lovers, we embrace Molly & Murphy as members of our family and
want them to enjoy the best of health. Thanks for taking time to respond!
