RE: [pyrnet] Re: Treatment of animals
Melissa,
I have kinda a dopey Karen story, funny Denali story that happened;
When I was in California, one summer we had problems with rats in the house
we rented..
I tried humane traps, couldn't do those sticky traps even though they were
rats, didn't want them to suffer...
we finally had to use the snap traps, and one night i found a stunned rat,
seemed to be OK but was just sitting on this box in our office.
So like a dope, I caught the thing in an empty dog food bag, put it outside
in a cage (so the hawks wouldn't get it, until i knew it was oK and i could
release it)
I went to feed it and it leaped out of the cage. Denali was snuffling
around in the yard, heard my schriek and bolted over to investigate, saw the
rat charging across the yard; he took off in hot pursuit.
Well, the two were running and weaving across the yard; every time D got
close, the rat jumped about six feet up in the air and then hit the ground
running; and I'm in my PJ's , running after the two and schrieking for
Denali to come (yeah, right)
finally the rat flew up a tree and I dragged Denali inside. It took about
two hours for the rat to finally come down and escape out of the yard.
I don't know if I saved that rat any grief by saving it; but D had fun,
anyway...
So even when it comes to a rat, I still couldn't let the thing die a
terrible death.
I still can see that rat flipping up in the air, with Denali right on it's
creepy heels...
so, hope you have a chuckle on our behalf...
Karen, D the great rat hunter, and Keets (who wasn't born yet, lucky for
that rat)

I've been part of this list for a while now but haven't said very much (I
don't really have that much to say, I'm not a trainer, breeder, boarder,
etc.-just a gal who loves her Pyr!) But this stuff, recently has been
making me really sad. Does anyone have a good story to share to get my mind
off of these horrific mental pictures of drowned/burned/starved dogs. I
want to leave work, go home, and snuggle my babies for comfort. :(
