The truth probably is that the vast majority of weak pigment has nothing to
do with eating/drinking out of plastic bowls.  Most weak pigment is a
genetic issue.  So being penalized in this case is justified.  Of course, as
Barb said, not all faults are equal and not all faults are equal to
different judges.  As a sidelight, I would guess that nearly all "show" dogs
are fed out of steel bowls or possibly ceramic.  "Most" serious dog people
use stainless.  it is incredibly durable and can be sterilized easily.  I
have stainless bowls that I have had for 30 years.  Some of them have tooth
holes but still they "go on ticking".
