Re: [pyrnet] Obedience Training

Last night my trainer asked me to find out if there are any pyrs that have
their CDX or UDX titles. I've looked through the AKC competitions and have
found plenty of competition results... But I've yet to find a pyr mentioned!

Hi Roger! I just read your message, and did a very quick and dirty count of the
title holders:
somewhat less than 50 Pyrs have ever gotten a CDX since our first CDX, Ch.
Basquaerie Amie in 1942. Just 9 Pyrs have gotten a UD:

Ch. Quibbletown Cinderella UD in 1959
Britannic's Midsummer Knight UDT in 1969
Ch. Andre El Encantado de la Luz UD in 1975
Pyr Haven Little Pooka Bear UD in 1980
Wolftraps Kid Coulomb UD also in 1980
Ch. Peerage Wolftrap Kid Jubilee UD in 1982
Pook's Hill Chamonix UD in 1988
Sunny Bear Mountain Star UD in 1990
Ch. Chip N Tip Magnums Pride UD in 1998.

Sadly, Magnums Pride AKA "Ernie" passed on before he could complete his UDX,
although I have absolutely no doubt that Holly Zech and Ernie would have been
able to do it, had they been granted enough time.

How exciting! Sounds like you're poised for very great times ahead of you! I'm
really looking forward to hearing about your girl's successes! Put in the back
of your mind as you head into Novice that there's a tournament coming up in
December in Lebanon, PA that you can enter if you can post three scores with a
193 average or better: it would be FABULOUS to see a Pyr or two in there! The
scores can be from any registry: AKC, Canadian, UKC -- And of course the
National in MA in May is a great, great venue. Good judge, great conditions.
Usually a quiet show with an attentive, supportive crowd all rooting for
everyone, lots of room to warm up, and it's indoors this year -

So far I've only managed to put two CD's on my dogs, (Conrad and I went on to
Open but never managed to get the title, but we sure had fun! ) but am aiming
for higher and bigger things with my girlie Eloise - I too believe that Pyrs can
do this. As good old Jane Savoie says, (I think she may be in turn quoting
someone else), "If you think you can or you can't, you're right!" And it sure
is fun training!

Best wishes, break a leg, and hugs to your girl!
