I can't even imagine mine being quiet.  If one of the kids walk by our
bedroom on the way to the kitchen in the night, they go ballistic! 
Everyone in the family gets tired of that type of barking.

Also reminds me of all the stories about people who keep their dogs
outside to protect themselves.  Then someone breaks in the front door,
and the dogs can't get out of the back yard to protect.  I've often
thought that in this house, someone would probably have a heart attack
with the way our group hit the dutch door on the bedroom.  As well as
Shadow going off at the other end of the house from our daughters room! 
Ours look like bears standing up over the dutch doors.  I did love your
story about Valjean sleeping through it though, goes to show, we can
never be absolutely sure, can we??  :-)  Cindy
