Know what you mean about meeting a bear on the trail. If you aren't eaten,
just the shock takes a few years off your life. Don't think people
understand a grizzly bear could have a Pyr on each leg and one on an arm and
still swat a Pyr with one paw and break its neck. Cattleman might have been
up Pole Creek, west of park. There the bears come out of the mountains,
cross the creek to the huckleberry fields on the west park boundary.
There's a camp ground in the way and the Forest Service used to (and maybe
still does) close the campground for all the bears that pass
through--something about destroying cars and eating campers.
