Re: [pyrnet] Breeding?

Here are a few links that will explain to you some of things you need to
consider about breeding your Pyr:

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Flats/7244/index2.html

http://www.iupui.edu/~ihls400/responsible_breeder.html

http://www.dog-play.com/ethics.html

You may also want to take a look at the Great Pyrenees Club of America site.
There is lots of good info there, including a code of ethics which outlines
those principles which all responsible Pyr breeders should adhere to:
http://clubs.akc.org/gpca/

Remember when breeding you are responsible for those pups for the rest of
their lives. That means placing them in suitable homes. Taking them back
if for any reason the owner can't keep them (at any stage of their life),
being responsible if the pup should develop any genetically related
conditions (this means health testing and screening of the dog and bitch
beforehand too and knowing their genetic background - what they have and
what they may be carrying), taking responsibility for them if they end up in
rescue, providing advice to the new owners whenever they need it throughout
the pups life, and even taking responsibility for your puppies puppies
should the owner breed them.

Breeding is a big responsibility. Everyone who breeds has the future of the
breed as we know it in their hands. Will you be breeding sound Pyrs of good
type as per the the standards that have been laid down for us as guardians
of the breed? If not, please, please don't do it.
